FC «Rubin» was founded in 1958 – at the same season when the class B of USSR championship was expanded. The new club from Kazan was firstly named «Iskra», that was formed by players from different local teams. The main local team the new squad was based on was the football team from the aviation factory №22 named after S.P.Gorbunov (now - CAPO Gorbunov). The title was changed from «Iskra» to «Rubin» between seasons of 1964 and 1965 years.
In 1965, the club with an outstanding coach Nikolay Sentyabrev successfully moved to the second group of A class. In 1968-1970 years Viktor Kolotov played for «Rubin», he was the only club player who was called on the USSR national team. In 1970, «Rubin» moved to the First USSR league, and played there up until 1977 (excluding 1972 and 1973 years). In 1992-1993 our team was called «Rubin-TAN» (after the name of the main sponsor).
In 2001 (September, 4) Kurban Berdiev became a head coach of «Rubin», who trained our club for almost 12 years. In 2003 «Rubin» made its debut in Russian Premier league and finished the season at the 3rd place. In 2008 and 2009 «Rubin» was a champion of Russia. In 2010 «Rubin» won Russian Supercup for the first time, then again the cub got the trophey in 212. In 2012 «Rubin» won Russian Cup. The club has been a regular in European competition in recent seasons. Nowadays the team plays in the Kazan Arena.
